Last Saturday the International Day of Climate Action was celebrated around the world. A celebration established by the United Nations to alleviate the devastating effects that have been taking place in recent years across the planet. We are aware that we belong to a sector that is unfortunately very harmful for the environment, but despite this, it is important to emphasize that there are many ways to act, and we are proud that one of our business goals is the conservation of our environment.
Logesta maintains an unequivocal commitment to the environment, included in its quality, environment, and energy efficiency policy, and makes a continuous effort in terms of sustainability and climate change, including activities such as route optimization, the reduction of empty kilometres, the replacement of the conventional fleet with efficient vehicles, energy audits, the promotion of reuse and recycling, etc.
Technological investment as an engine of transport
The digital transformation of companies is a reality. The investment in technology, if applied correctly, produces a transformation in companies, making them more efficient in their processes, eliminating duplicated operations or operations devoid of value. At Logesta, digitization has been constant since the company started; it is part of its DNA, understanding that digitization does not only apply to operational processes, but also to improving the environment
For a transport company, fuel consumption is one of the “cost” issues that has the greatest impact, surpassing other activity overheads such as the depreciation of vehicles and even salary expenses. Reducing fuel consumption is a daily objective for transport companies, not only because of the economic factor, but also because of the high pollution load it entails. Transport companies are developing different technologies that can combine a reduction in a vehicle’s fuel consumption in a vehicle on the one hand, and, on the other hand, contribute to improving the environment by emitting less CO2.
With the objeIn order to achieve a reduction in fuel, companies usually work in two different areas:
- Improved engines
- Optimization of the use of the vehicle fleet
The first option is evident. The use of ecological trucks, with more environmentally sustainable engines, is a firm intent by the entire transport sector. Following the guidelines in the European Union regulations, the use of trucks whose basic characteristic is a high capacity to reduce the CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere prevails.
There are 5 types of ecological trucks. The difference between them is the type of energy they use for their movement, but they all have the common denominator of reduced consumption and low CO2 emission:
- Electric trucks
- Hybrid trucks
- Natural gas trucks
- LGP trucks
- Hydrogen fuel cell trucks
The second point on which transport companies base their improvement strategy, is to develop a good vehicle fleet optimization system. These systems, in addition to the logical objective of improving logistics, delivery and security operations, also take into account that, through their use, the transport company manages to achieve the highest levels of quality in the service provided to the customer. In addition to seeking an increase in productivity, a clear objective for Logesta is to reduce its carbon footprint by as much as possible.
CPD recognition
Proof of this commitment to the environment is that our group has been recognized, in a report by the CDP, for its activities last year, to reduce emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop the low carbon economy, based on CDP criteria. Only a small number of companies around the world have been able to maintain this high score for so long, something we are frankly proud of. The complete list of companies that made the CDP Climate Change List is available at:https://www.cdp.net/en/scores
The information reported to CDP includes that relating to corporate activities and strategies, as well as those of all companies in the Group, to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change, assessing the measures and improvements implemented in recent years and therefore extending recognition for all of them. Furthermore, the renewed distinction rewards the efforts and excellent development of the Logista Group and consolidates its position as a model company and a benchmark for the organizations participating in the CDP Program.
